Our organization is named after the third principle of Kwanzaa, which means “Collective Work and Responsibility: To build and maintain our community together and to make our brother’s and sister’s problems our problems and to solve them together.”
Project Ujima focuses on fostering the conditions that lead to citizens discovering their own efficacy and capacity to work together to strengthen the community. In addition to providing Circle processes, we provide logistical support to assist with implementation of actions that are agreed upon by Circle participants.*
*While our Discussion Circle processes and facilitator training are available to the community-at-large, our primary area of service is Akron’s Buchtel Community, located on the City’s west side.
